Alyssa Haller is the niece of a police officer. She lives in an apartment with her brother, Ryan, away from their alcoholic uncle, Will.

Daniel Reeves's father, Jacob, is the leader of the criminal organization known as the Riot.

One day, Alyssa finds herself stumbling upon a door that leads to a magical cabin in the woods. She meets Daniel, and his best friend, Kyle, who have both been looking for her. Alyssa learns that she is the next Guardian, destined to partner with Daniel in protecting the cabin from an evil magic lurking behind the Dark Door.

Along with battling these dark powers, Alyssa and Daniel face many other challenges. The worst of them is the Riot. Daniel must face his own father as Jacob allies himself with dangerous forces. Will Daniel and Alyssa defeat the darkness? Or will the ties their families have to this magic conflict with their victory?
